Meryl Streep, “The Article”: As Washington Post publisher Katherine Graham, she captured the internal development of a woman discovering her own electricity. It takes an icon to understand a icon.

Frances McDormand in “Three Billboards External Ebbing, Missouri”: for anybody who felt hurt and angry, her Mildred Hayes was a catharsis. Mildred takes matters to crotches through outdoor advertising and a few knees.

Tessa Thompson, “Thor: Ragnarok”: Wonder Woman grabbed the most attention, but that “Creed” celebrity’s interpretation of the faulty, decided Valkyrie left her next essential woman to have in the side during a cosmic battle.

Mary J. Blige, “Mudbound”: The Grammy-winning singer saw her voice as an actress in manager Dee Rees’  impressive spin on two families from the Mississippi Delta. She was not just a force that is maternal. She conveyed that the elegance, sorrow and power of their matriarchy.

Carrie Fisher, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”: ” Fisher’s final film performance almost glowed with the patience and wisdom of General Leia, whose courage reflects Fisher’s personal skill to function through her pain. She may be gone, but she will live on as a goddess that was cinematic.
